{"id":1423,"date":"2011-01-20T11:58:27","date_gmt":"2011-01-20T06:28:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/apartmentadda.com\/blog\/?p=1423"},"modified":"2023-11-02T06:40:55","modified_gmt":"2023-11-02T06:40:55","slug":"general-meeting-of-apartment-owners-associations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/adda.io\/blog\/2011\/01\/general-meeting-of-apartment-owners-associations\/","title":{"rendered":"General Meetings for Apartment Owners Associations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wondering when exactly the General Meeting of Apartment, commonly known as the Annual General Meeting needs to be held &#8211; as mandated by the Legislation?\u00a0 Here are the specifics as prescribed in the Acts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Societies Registration Act (1960)<\/strong> outlines the exact timing of these meetings:<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">General Meeting<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>(1) Every <a href=\"https:\/\/adda.io\/apartment-association\/society-management-software\">society<\/a> registered under this Act shall hold <strong>every year<\/strong> a general meeting called the<strong> annual general meeting of Apartment<\/strong> at which the <strong>report of the management of the society<\/strong> for the previous year together with an <strong>audited copy of the balance sheet, income and expenditure account and the auditor\u2019s report<\/strong> shall be submitted for approval.<\/p>\n<p>(2) The <strong>first annual general meeting<\/strong> shall be held by a society <strong>within eighteen months of its registration<\/strong>. The next annual general meeting of the society shall be held within nine months after the expiry of the specific year in which the first annual general meeting was held; and thereafter an annual general meeting shall be held within nine months after the expiry of each specific year:<\/p>\n<p>Provided that the Registrar may, for any special reason, extend the time within which an annual general meeting shall be held, by a further period not exceeding six months:<br \/>\nProvided further that except in the case referred to in the preceding proviso <strong>not more than eighteen months shall elapse between the date of one annual general meeting and that of the next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>(3) A <strong>special general meeting<\/strong> may be convened at any time on the<strong> requisition of the president<\/strong> or the chairman, if any, of the governing body, or on the requisition of not less than <strong>one-third<\/strong> of the number of members of the <strong>governing body<\/strong>, or <strong>one-tenth<\/strong> of the total number of<strong> members<\/strong> of the society, entitled to vote who shall state in <a href=\"http:\/\/esssaycube.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">writing service<\/a> the business for which they wish the meeting to be convened and the governing body shall, <strong>within ten days<\/strong> from the date of the receipt of the requisition, proceed duly to call a meeting for the consideration of the business stated on a day<strong> not later than forty days<\/strong> from the date of the receipt of the requisition.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1424\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1424\" class=\"wp-image-1424 size-full\" title=\"595588_conference_room\" src=\"https:\/\/adda.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/595588_conference_room.jpg\" alt=\"General Meeting Of Apartment\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1424\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">General Body Meeting of Society<\/p><\/div>\n<p>(4) If a <strong>member has no registered address in India <\/strong>and has not supplied to the society an address within India for the giving of notice to him, a notice advertised in a newspaper in Kannada and in a newspaper in English or any other language circulating in the neighbourhood of the registered office of the society shall be deemed to be duly given to him on the day on which the advertisement appears in the newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>(Did you know your <a href=\"https:\/\/adda.io\/\">ADDA<\/a> helps you save a ton of money on Newspaper Ads!
