It was the era of \u201cIf it\u2019s free, you\u2019re the product.\u201d And well everybody was doing it\u2026Be it facebook, or google, or instagram!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But once you look deeper, you will understand that you cannot compare community apps with likes of facebook, etc. More on this later in the blog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a team, ADDA was very clear about this aspect &#8211; A community App is not a place for Ads!<br>We were building a global software for homes, communities, families \u2014 not a social media app. And homes are private spaces. The digital extension of your home should be private too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we made a decision that still shocks many people today:<br><strong>ADDA will make money only through software subscriptions.<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><strong>No ads. No data resale. No third-party monetization.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is something uniquely sensitive about the data that sits inside ADDA. It\u2019s not \u201cbrowsing behaviour\u201d or \u201cshopping preferences.\u201d It\u2019s real-world, deeply personal, identity-linked information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Your full name<br>\u2022 Your address (down to the apartment\/villa number)<br>\u2022 Your phone number and email<br>\u2022 Your family members<br>\u2022 Your domestic staff<br>\u2022 Your vehicles<br>\u2022 Your maintenance payments<br>\u2022 Community conversations<br>\u2022 Complaint history, facility usage and more<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This goes far beyond what regular apps handle. Ads are simply part of the furniture there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But when it comes to a community app, noise is harmful.<br>You are not there to browse.<br>You are there to pay attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine trying to read a water-shutdown alert with an ad for home loans sitting right below it. Advertisers don\u2019t pay for vague impressions. They pay for targeting, performance, and optimized results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And when they don\u2019t get the results they expect, they start asking questions like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cWho saw the ad?\u201d<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cCan you tell us which buildings clicked more?\u201d<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cWhat type of residents responded?\u201d<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cCan we get more segmentation?\u201d<br><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This begins the slippery slope.<br>Internal teams feel pressure.<br>Small compromises start: \u201cJust this one field\u2026 just this one category\u2026 just this one behaviour pattern.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before anyone realizes it, the community\u2019s data begins to move because the business model demands it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of this like you have entered a train in Mumbai, once you have entered it, you cannot stay in one place.
