MIND IT, we do not encourage the method that involves bribe. We do not need to pay any extra cash to an officer at the counter to do his\/her&nbsp;job that the Govt. is anyway paying him to do. It may be easier and convenient, but as law abiding citizens we should refrain from any such illicit practices. So to get the electricity meter transferred to your name here is the list of documents that you\u2019ll need to prepare. You may not need all of them in the first step, but we recommend that you keep the papers ready before you even pay the first visit to the electricity board office.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Copy and original of the payment receipt of last electricity bill<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attested copy of the sale deed of the house to prove ownership<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Copy of last tax receipt<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Copy of card issued by electricity board<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An indemnity bond on stamp paper of value INR 80\/- (easily sourced from any notary office)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NOC from the individual in whose name the meter is currently in<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attested copies of address and ID proof<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although optional, we recommend that you take a picture of the electricity meter in print and carry that along with you for safety. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, we came across a few homeowners who had purchased the house a few years back and was only trying to get the meter name transferred much later. Some of them found out that the previous meter holder is no more. Should that happen to you, you\u2019ll need to find a copy of the previous holder\u2019s death certificate, which should then be duly attested before presenting at the electricity board office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will also need to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tangedco.gov.in\/image\/2424Name%20transfer%20%20form.doc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fill out a copy of the Form U<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (it should auto download as soon as you click this link). Fill it out clearly and carry it along with you. Place all documents together in a file for convenience.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. Time To See The Officials<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once all that paperwork is ready , proceed to the nearest electricity board office. Approach the Assistant Engineer (AE) there and submit a letter requesting name transfer of meter and the file containing all the documents you prepared. (S)He will then direct you to pay the fee towards transfer of name which you should pay and then collect the receipt. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The official website currently lists that the fee is INR 200\/-, you may want to check the website before you pay the sun the AE quotes. As soon as the officer quotes the fee, ask whether a receipt will be provided. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. Concluding The Process<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any further instruction will be given to you after the payment has been made. If everything in the documents meets the requirements, the AE will then direct the technician to visit your home to inspect your meter. These days, this step is completely overlooked in some cases. But it is okay. As soon as you pay the fee, you can <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/tneb.tnebnet.org\/newlt\/consno.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">check the status of your meter name change<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> online.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Give it a week and the name change should be reflected by then. If not, grab those payment receipts and march to the electricity board office to ask some questions.
