ADDA in collaboration with CitizenMatters recently organized an essay competition on the topic “If I were the Bengaluru Mayor”. The contest requested participants aged 15+, from across the city to submit an essay on what changes they would implement if they got to be the Mayor of this beautiful city.
To say that the event was successful would be an understatement. With ADDA being the title sponsor, much attention was garnered by the event. In fact, the response was so overwhelming that the organizers had to extend the final submission date to allow everyone to have a fair chance to submit their essays.
The month-long contest came to a conclusion on the 1st of December, 2017, with the Hon. Mayor himself giving away the prizes to the winners. Mr. Srininas Alavalli, a software engineer working with Oracle, was selected as the winner among English essays And Ms. Veda Athavale, Head of Sanskrit Dept. in Delhi Public School was selected as the winner among Kannada essays.
The organizers found that the entries were a goldmine of ideas. From entries where their writers reminisced about the old Bengaluru to some really innovative ideas on how the city can be made cleaner, this contest sure helped us find some spectacular ideas for making the city of Bengaluru the best. Several mentions of previous Mayors too were seen.
But in the end, we can proudly say that the contest did what it ultimately aimed for. Creating awareness about the city’s present state and finding potential measures to fix it. The Hon. Mayor has expressed his happiness at the impact of the contest and was seen congratulating the winners profusely. You can read some excerpts from shortlisted essays here.
ADDA is proud to have been a sponsor for such a wonderful event. We hope that the awareness spread will go a long way in creating a positive impact in this beautiful city that we call home. Here’s wishing the very best to the winners, participants and organizers!
